Le Trench Coat

It doesn’t get more staple / wardrobe essential than a trench coat, does it? Indispensable against the London, the Paris or any other rain. Incredibly chic. Thrown over a simple pair of jeans, and flats, you’re good to go out and about in style. Take the hint from the goddess of elegance, Miss Holly Golightly - Audrey Hepburn, who arguably can pull it off on a kitchen sink with an empty bottle of gin, which not many of us can. But still who does not need a trench coat...?

Now you’re probably wondering, considering the temperatures are currently in the minus range, why would I want to focus this week’s post on a fashion piece that hardly anyone is going to be able wear for weeks, perhaps months. Well, it is quite simple. Come March, or April, it will hopefully be time again to put back our duvet coats where they belong (in a far away box, on the top shelf of the wardrobe) and start wearing less panda looking clothes such as... trench coats. But at that point of course, the sales will be long gone. And you might think twice before treating yourself to a new coat, which let’s face it, is on the rather pricey end of the range. Now you know where I am getting at.

There are plenty of gorgeous styles at the moment in the last weeks of the sales. All at 50% off. And because everyone is desperate to buy chunky, fluffy knits, and sheep looking clothes right now, the stocks of trench coats are still pretty decent. So my advice is: think long term, and think how you will be so pleased to have bought (for once) something that you will rediscover later, and be wearing for a long while. Spring does come with a considerable amount of unpleasant rain in our gorgeous Western capitals unfortunately. Can’t have everything they say. But at least you can have a trench coat!

So anyway, I have had my usual obsessive browse across a range of brands and have rounded up the best styles I could find. And to be honest, I am this close to buying myself one of those... Like this one from Zadig, which I have also come across in the shop and is an absolute killer. The neoprene kind of material gives it this extra edgy touch. And not to mention the skull detail of course.

Zadig & Voltaire, Mai Deluxe Trench, £222 (half price)

The Kooples, Trench Coat with Leather Detail, £197.50 (half price) - Traditional cut but clearly modernised by the  leather details.

Zara Long Trench Coat, £19.99 (60% off) - Less than £20, is there any point in resisting awesomeness...?

Comptoir des Cotonniers Long Floaty Trench Coat Chamois, £78 (60% off) - Really lie the fluidity of this one but only large sizes left unfortunately though.

Tara Jarmon, Black Satin Drape Front Coat, £272.50 (half price) - For the Sicilian black lovers. Love the bottom and sleeves details.

Claudie Pierlot, Garden Trench, £210 (half price) - Close to being the perfect cool rock Parisian style.

Burberry Ruffle Detail Macramé Lace Trench Coat, £1,995 - Not even on sale so for the eyes only but you must admit, what a beauty! Burberry still totally owns the trench!
